How I Regained Control of My Practice
Dovetail started from the frustration of a single periodontist (yours truly) who just wanted to get his life back. Today, Dovetail is helping dentists around the world manage their practices more efficiently.
But I’m ahead of myself. Let’s go back to when I started my periodontal practice a few years ago. Like many of my colleagues, I put in long hours and built a successful practice. But I was constantly tired and overburdened keeping up with patient files. The long hours I put in at the office, particularly the administrative functions and patient reports, often spilled over into valuable family time.
The details of overseeing a busy office wore me down. Even though I kept up-to-date, used excellent scheduling software and employed highly competent staff, nothing seemed to mesh. Many of my team’s activities seemed to duplicate each other. I knew there had to be a better way.
Fed up with the dental practice software I was using, I hired a development team to build a cloud-based platform for mobile tablets. I wanted this software platform to behave the way dentists work and think from a clinical perspective. I wanted something so intuitive it could be used seamlessly by everyone in my clinic as well as by our close collaborators. The result was Dovetail.
I have been using Dovetail as the cornerstone of my practice for several years. In the process, I have significantly increased revenue and reduced my overhead. What’s more, I no longer rely on secretaries to run my practice. This new venture has alleviated all the major paperwork burden in my practice, and led to a more ambitious undertaking – building a highly disruptive software company that will fundamentally transform the way dentists work and manage their practices.
